Welcome to

Beeslack Community High School

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Beeslack Community High School website. Whether you are a pupil, parent or a member of our community, I hope our website will help you to gain a greater understanding of who were are, what we stand for and what we do.

Our Context

Beeslack Community High School was established in 1984. It serves the northern tip of Penicuik and its surrounding areas. Our current role is around 750 pupils. As a relatively small school, we know our pupils well and positive relationships are consistently identified as one of our key strengths. We have strong relationships with our associated primary schools (Bilston Primary; Mauricewood Primary and Roslin Primary) and we work closely with them to ensure pupils experience a smooth transition from primary school to high school. We also have a number of pupils from out with catchment, all of which makes for a diverse and close-knit school community. At Beeslack we have a saying that encapsulates this sense of community and togetherness: ‘Once at Beeslack, always at Beeslack.’ We believe that school plays an important role in forming connections, friendships and memories that last far beyond the last time a pupil walks through the school gates and out into the wider world. Beeslack will always connect those who have been part of its history as pupils, staff, parents or community partners and they will be forever welcome in our school community.

I took up post as Headteacher of Beeslack in October 2023, having worked at the school since 2008. I place great value on the relationships I have been lucky enough to develop across the school community over the years. My fondness for, and understanding of, the community Beeslack serves means this will always be more than just a job to me. Being a Headteacher is both a responsibility and a privilege and all the more so when the school you are Headteacher of has played such a special role in your life. As a community school with a thriving education and engagement programme for all ages, our school is very much a part of our community, which keeps people coming back time and time again. ‘Once at Beeslack, always at Beeslack!’

Our Vision and Values

We are currently going through a process of consultation with a view of refreshing our vision and values, which will conclude in August 2024. Our current vision and values are as follows:

Vision: At Beeslack we strive to be successful, curious, responsible, resilient and respectful to allow us all to grow, flourish and achieve.

Values: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Curiosity and Success.

Our Future:

Our school community are due to move to a brand new building in August 2026, which is an exciting opportunity that we are greatly looking forward to. Catch all the updates in the ‘new school’ tab under the ‘school information’ page of this website.

Until then, I hope you enjoy leafing through the pages of our website to find out more about our school. Whether you are a current or prospective member of school community, I hope you will be proud to say you were once a part of Beeslack.
